BY THE OTTAWA CITIZEN OCTOBER 17, 2008 OTTAWA - Fraud charges have been laid against the former president of the Hawkesbury Minor Hockey Association after police investigated a complaint about missing registration funds. Last April, Hawkesbury OPP received a complaint that registration money collected in the fall of 2007 was missing and unaccounted for, said Det. Const. Jocelyn Lessard. In a six-month investigation, police interviewed about 50 people and executed a search warrant at a bank. Det. Const Lessard declined to say how much money was missing, but it is “not much more” than $5,000. Nicholas Mihalovits, 51, of Hawkesbury, who resigned as president of the hockey association before the investigation began, faces a charge of fraud over 5,000.
